Alzheimer's Association - Dallas & Northeast Texas Chapter

The Alzheimer's Association was founded in 1980 by Jerome H. Stone and a group of family caregivers and individuals interested in research. The organization was established to advance research into the causes, treatments, and prevention of Alzheimer's disease, as well as to provide care and support for those affected by the condition.

Key milestones in the organization's history include:

  1. 1980: Founded as the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association (ADRDA)
  2. 1985: Helped secure the first federal funding for Alzheimer's research
  3. 1990: Launched the first nationwide toll-free helpline for Alzheimer's support
  4. 2004: Introduced the Alzheimer's Association International Conference (AAIC)
  5. 2010: Released the first Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures report

Today, the Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support, and research, with a nationwide network of chapters providing services to those affected by the disease.
