The Longview Dream Center was founded by Pastor Thomas McDaniels. Thomas currently serves as the CEO of the Longview Dream Center in Longview, Texas. Thomas has been serving people in East Texas for over 30 years. 8 years ago he started LifeSource Food Assistance in a local church and has fed thousands of families for many years. Thomas received the 2014 Humanitarian Award for Gregg County and is known for his compassion and service to others. Thomas is a proud Dad of three sons and the husband of Charlotte McDaniels, his wife of over 30 years.

The Longview Dream Center exists to provide basic needs to the people of Longview and the greater East Texas region. Their mission is to unite the time, talents and treasures of organizations while serving those in our community that are in need or in crisis.

East Texas CASA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors located in Longview, Tx. We are a member of the National and Texas CASA Associations. There are over 1000 CASA programs nationwide and 73 CASA programs in the state of Texas.
East Texas CASA continue to serve abused and neglected children in Gregg, Rusk and Upshur Counties since 1992 by providing trained community volunteers for every child who was assigned to the program through the court.

**MISSION STATEMENT**
East Texas CASA will recruit and train volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children and youth who are removed from their families due to abuse or neglect in Gregg, Rusk, and Upshur counties.

**VISION**
The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA):

- Ensures the child is receiving physical and mental health care services;
- Has access to school records and advocates for the child’s educational needs;
- Visits the child and placement to evaluate the level of care the child is receiving;
- Searches for and evaluates any potential temporary or permanent placements;
- Advocates to find a permanent solution for the child as quickly as possible; and
- Remains with the child until the case is closed and the child is no longer in the custody of the State.

**HISTORY**
East Texas CASA is part of a national volunteer movement that began in 1977 when Judge David Soukup in Seattle decided he needed to know more about the children whose lives were in his hands. His solution was to ask community volunteers to act as a “voice in court” for abused and neglected children. These Court Appointed Special Advocate® (CASAs) provided him with the detailed information he needed to safeguard the children’s best interests and ensure that they were placed in safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible. The program was so successful that it was copied around the nation.

East Texas CASA has continued to serve abused and neglected children in Gregg, Rusk and Upshur Counties since 1992 by providing trained community volunteers for every child who was assigned to the program through the court.

Founded in 1995, the Foundation uses the funds it raises to operate three separate grant programs, all of which are designed to increase academic achievement and enhance the academic programs offered by the Longview Independent School District.  The three grant programs are the Great Rewards for Great Ideas Grant Program, the Campus Initiative Grant Program, and the John W. Harrison, Jr. Academic Field Trip Grant Program. To date, the Foundation has raised and returned $1,086,082.00 to Longview ISD educators and classrooms through its three grant programs and has funded over $190,000 scholarships for LHS seniors.

- Grants: Great Rewards for Great Ideas Grant Program, the Campus Initiative Grant Program, and the John W. Harrison, Jr. Academic Field Trip Grant Program

- Scholarships: The Lobo Memorial Scholarship Fund within the Foundation offers $1,000 scholarships to Longview High School seniors who plan to attend two-year or four-year colleges or universities and technical schools.  Students may apply each January for scholarships awarded in May.

**Eligibility Requirements:** 
- All LISD teachers, counselors, librarians, and nurses are eligible to submit grants through the Great Rewards for Great Ideas Grant Program, requesting up to $2,500 for classroom materials, equipment, programs, and projects that enhance those already provided by the district.
- All LISD principals and their designees are eligible to submit grants through the Campus Initiative Grant Program, requesting up to $5,000 for materials, equipment, programs, and projects that improve academic achievement and opportunity for all students campuswide.
- Fourth and fifth grade teachers and middle school teachers are eligible to submit grants through the John W. Harrison, Jr. Academic Field Trip Grant Program, requesting up to $7,000 for travel to venues beyond Longview that offer hands-on learning experiences for students that cannot be replicated in the classroom.  These learning experiences must be directly linked to classroom instruction and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for the grade level and subject area.

The Longview ISD Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt public corporation operating independently under a board of directors who serve without compensation. Members of the Foundation's Board of Directors represent a cross section of the community and are dedicated to our students and educators and their success.

Donations to the Foundation are maintained locally and used to begin and/or enhance innovative academic programs and projects. Through the Great Rewards for Great Ideas Program, the Foundation improves student achievement, fosters innovation, and supports educators. By requesting contributions, the Foundation promotes community involvement from individuals, alumni, businesses, corporations, and school and civic organizations.

The Foundation also sponsors the annual Lamplighter Awards Banquet to honor educators and the students whose lives the educators have touched. All proceeds from this event benefit the Foundation's Great Rewards for Great Ideas Program, the Campus Initiative Grant Program, and the John W. Harrison, Jr. Academic Field Trip Grant Program.

Since 1996, the Great Rewards for Great Ideas Grant Program has funded 770 grants, returning $827,092.75 to LISD’s classrooms and enabling innovative teachers, counselors, librarians, and nurses to create new educational programs or to enhance existing ones so they can provide the best instruction possible to all students.  These grants have funded programs and projects for students of all ability levels in a variety of disciplines.  In addition to strengthening academics, the grants have also funded projects in music, art, technology, career education, STEAM education, character education, health and physical education, and guidance and counseling.
 
The Foundation has also funded fifty Campus Initiative Grants for a total of $151,265.68.  The Foundation believes that this grant program, targeting overall campus improvement, complements the Foundation’s annual Great Rewards for Great Ideas Program.

In fall 2018, the Longview ISD Foundation began the John W. Harrison, Jr. Academic Field Trip Grant, named in the memory of the late Mr. John Harrison who served on the Longview ISD school board for over forty years.  The Academic Field Trip Grant provides funding for up to $7,000 for fourth and fifth grade students and middle school students so they can travel for learning experiences that reinforce and expand what they have learned in the classroom.  The Foundation has funded fourteen John W. Harrison, Jr. Academic Field Trip Grants for fourth and fifth grade and middle school students for a total of $61,733.74.   Students have extended their classroom learning at the Perot Museum in Dallas, NASA in Houston, the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin, the Bullock Texas State HIstory Museum in Austin, the Texas Military Forces Museum in Austin, the state capitol building in Austin, the Stephen F. Austin State University Planetarium, iFly, Sky Ranch, the Caldwell Zoo, Texas State Technical Institute, and the SciPort Discovery Center.

 Through its three grant programs, the Longview ISD Foundation has returned a grand total of $1,042,092.19 to LISD classrooms and campuses in its twenty-eight-year history.

The Longview ISD Foundation also offers continuing education scholarships to Longview ISD educators who wish to remain in the classroom and provide direct services to students.  The Foundation especially wants to help educators who are pursuing advanced degrees and certification in critical teaching shortage areas, such as bilingual education, science, and math.  The  Foundation also wants to help educators who are teaching in the district's STEM and STEAM education programs.

The Longview ISD Foundation also offers college and technical school scholarships to Longview High School seniors, awarding five to eight $1,000 scholarship per year through the Foundation's Lobo Memorial Scholarship Fund.  The Foundation has awarded a total of $191,000 in scholarships, proudly helping students continue their education and success.

**Providing Hope in Tyler**

In 2015 the Hiway 80 Rescue Mission extended its reach into Tyler with the Gateway to Hope. At our Tyler day care center we provide access to showers, laundry, haircuts, phone, mail, and a computer for those in need. Throughout the week different volunteers come to help by distributing supplies, assisting guests on the computers, cutting hair, sharing the Lord, or sometimes just taking time to be an encouragement and a friendly ear to listen.

**Brindando Esperanza en Tyler**

En 2015, la Misión de Rescate Hiway 80 extendió su alcance a Tyler con el Gateway to Hope. En nuestro centro de cuidado diurno en Tyler, brindamos acceso a duchas, lavandería, cortes de cabello, teléfono, correo y una computadora para aquellos que lo necesitan. A lo largo de la semana, diferentes voluntarios vienen a ayudar distribuyendo suministros, asistiendo a los huéspedes en las computadoras, cortando el cabello, compartiendo la palabra del Señor o a veces simplemente tomando tiempo para ser un estímulo y un oído amigable para escuchar.

**Loving Others as Christ Commanded**

In 1955 the Hiway 80 Rescue Mission was established to provide food and shelter, and to share the gospel with homeless men in Longview. For over 65 years God has helped us grow this ministry to include an emergency shelter for women and families in Longview as well as two campuses in Tyler.

We feature Christ-centered recovery programs, and community outreach services. Through the New Creation Discipleship program, we teach people about Christ’s love and commands, arming them with the tools they need to overcome addictions, abusive situations, and many other difficulties they face in life. After completing the 10-month program, services are provided to assist them with achieving self-sufficiency.

Through Case Management, we assist homeless men and women in identifying and overcoming the obstacles that are keeping them in homelessness. Our case management team works with the individuals to create a plan to address those obstacles, secure and budget an income and locate healthy and appropriate housing.

What started in one, small building now spans 4 campuses in Longview and Tyler.
