An After School Enrichment Program That Caters To Underserved Students.

Education by Design is a grass-roots intervention non-profit program for school-aged children in need of academic, social, and emotional, support, from 2nd to 11th grade. Rooted in a commitment of more than 25 years of advocacy for community development and self-empowerment, the organization’s founder Dr. Joycelyne Fadojutimi, transformed her doctoral studies into action with the establishment of Education by Design, an innovative non-profit organization to combat the ills of poverty, low educational attainment, and hopelessness.

The majority of students served are from low-income, under-resourced, single-parent, minority families where examples of academic attainment and success are limited. Hence, Education by Design tutors, mentors, and coaches for academic achievement and constructive character development to assist students and their families in transformation.

The Workforce Solutions East Texas Board works in partnership with chief elected officials of the region and is the primary source of local workforce policy. We are one of 28 local Workforce Solutions Boards located throughout the state. 

Texas House Bill 1863, along with provisions of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, sought to integrate various workforce programs under a single policy-making body. The Workforce Solutions East Texas Board was established to oversee this integration and coordination of more than twenty separate employment and training programs in our area. In 2014, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act updated Federal programs, making them even more responsive to our participant's needs. A report by the Comptroller’s office in 1995 provided the principles that serve as the cornerstone of workforce development boards:

Champions for Children is a United Way of Tyler/Smith County partner agency and is focused on quality, early childhood development for all children. Chicken Salad Chick is a quick-service restaurant offering 13 flavors of chicken salad, pimiento, spicy pimento, egg salad, and turkey sandwiches.  You have 4 bread options, 5 options for sides, soups, desserts and beverages.  All of our food is made from scratch daily.

- **Networking, planning, and collaboration event space for nonprofits at no cost!**
- We host Celebrity Nights at our restaurant. Nonprofits can choose a day (Monday thru Thursday) and after 2pm-8pm.  You choose how many hours you would like to be there.  You and the organization can be greeters, you are welcome to sell any products other than food, you are welcome to place tip jars at the registers.  Your organization will take home 20% of all profits.  The more we both market, the more the organization makes.  We then cut you a check in 7 days from the date of the event.
- **We have an event space that seats up to 40 individuals that we offer to nonprofits for free.**  You can either choose a catered buffet meal that would be in the event space or each guest can go to the register.  Our meals start at $8.99 for a sandwich or scoop, 1 side and a cookie and pickle.

###### Event Space is FREE to nonprofits. Celebrity Nights are FREE, and the nonprofit receives 20% of all sales.

Stacy Brown has always been on a quest to find the perfect chicken salad. One day she had an epiphany: Everyone’s idea of the perfect chicken salad is completely different! The stay-at-home mom set to work perfecting her own recipe, recruiting her family and neighbors to taste-test, before arriving at the one.

Once Stacy had the chicken salad that made her family and friends say “mmm, yes ma’am,” she started dropping off samples of her creation in teachers’ lounges and hair salons, and then began selling door-to-door. Orders poured in; Chicken Salad Chick was born. One day Stacy received a call from Stan with the Lee County Health Department, who told her the home business was illegal. With her chicken salad still in high demand, Stacy and her husband, Kevin Brown, were motivated to open up a carry-out only, humble yet honest-to-goodness restaurant where they could spread joy, enrich lives, and serve others. The rest, as they say, is history.

**The Future is Bright**
Under the leadership of CEO Scott Deviney, franchising has taken off in a major way. Chicken Salad Chick boasts over 225 restaurants today with plans to exceed 250 locations or more including additional states in 2023. Ned E. **History**
Originally named Greenville School, the school founded in 1883 by the renowned educator and dean of students, Prof. Ned E. Williams, as an all-Black school in the Elderville Common School District. The school's name was changed to Gregg County Training School in 1918, with Mr. Williams as its first principal. After his death in 1945, the school was renamed in his honor, recognizing his 57 years of service to the institution. His son, Dr. E.R. Williams, succeeded him as the principal.

A new modern structure was constructed in 1964, but the school closed its doors in 1969 following consolidation with Longview Independent School District. Currently, Dr. Dorcas Dunlap, a third-generation descendant of Ned E. Williams, is the administrator of the elementary school.

The history of the Ned E. Williams Elementary School serves as a testament to the contributions of Black educators and their vital role in shaping the educational landscape of America. The school has come a long way from its humble beginnings as an all-Black school to being administered by one of the descendants of its founder. It remains an integral part of the Longview Independent School District, providing quality education to children from diverse backgrounds.

Environment and Nature preservation & Entertainment services

The Longview Arboretum and Nature Center is a privately managed arboretum garden in the heart of Longview. Like many other arboretums across our nation, a respectful partnership exists between the City of Longview and the Board of the Longview Arboretum and Nature Center regarding the sustainability of this massive endeavor. This public/private partnership allows for cultivation, development, private investment, and collaborative maintenance on 26-acres between the Longview Convention Complex and Grace Creek tributary.

Opened Saturday, November 2, 2019, the Longview Arboretum began it's role as a privately managed arboretum devoted to revealing the unique eco-system of East Texas in a beautiful and thoughtful manner. The mission to educate our community, stimulate the senses, and create a positive relationship to nature is one that the Board of Directors pursues for the future. Our executive director, Steven Chamblee directs the growth, plantings, events, and exhibits of the Longview Arboretum. Please stop by and say hello if you see him in the gardens.

This ever-growing garden is a living testament to a love of community, and the soul enriching quality of spending time in nature.

Care

**Serving the Needs of Homeless Women and Mothers with Children**
We have seen an increase at our Women & Families Shelter due to the lack of affordable housing, inadequate employment training and a troubled national economy. We offer food clothing, shelter, and gospel services. Hiway 80 Rescue Mission provides solace and hope in the face of abuse, addiction or financial problems. Our Women & Families Shelter provides beds for at-risk women and children, along with physical, emotional and spiritual support in a safe, family oriented environment.

 Single women and mothers work hard to get their lives on the right track and provide stability for themselves and their family. Hiway 80 offers these women a safe place to stay while providing them with the tools to help them rebuild their lives.

**Family Cottages**
Our family cottages have been a wonderful factor in contributing to the long-term success of moms in shelter. These cottages provide a secure space for families, and create a since of home and belonging. Children are enrolled in school so they can keep up with their education.

**Intensive 9-month Christ-centered Program**
Our New Direction Program is a nine-month, intensive, Christ centered program aimed at helping women gain victory over the abuse, abandonment, and neglect of the past. We want to help women end the cycle of homelessness and address specific needs in their lives. The New Direction discipleship program focuses on case management, Bible studies, and work therapy to encourage women to grow in their identity in Christ.

**Atendiendo las Necesidades de Mujeres Sin Hogar y Madres con Niños**
Hemos visto un aumento en nuestro Refugio para Mujeres y Familías debido a la falta de viviendas asequibles, capacitación laboral inadecuada y una economía nacional problemática. Ofrecemos alimentos, ropa, refugio y servicios evangelísticos. La Misión de Rescate Hiway 80 brinda consuelo y esperanza frente al abuso, la adicción o los problemas financieros. Nuestro Refugio para Mujeres y Familias ofrece camas para mujeres y niños en riesgo, junto con apoyo físico, emocional y espiritual en un entorno seguro y orientado a la familia.

Las mujeres solteras y madres trabajan arduamente para enderezar sus vidas y brindar estabilidad a sí mismas y a sus familias. Hiway 80 ofrece a estas mujeres un lugar seguro para quedarse mientras les proporciona las herramientas para ayudarlas a reconstruir sus vidas.

**Cabañas Familiares**
Nuestras cabañas familiares han sido un factor maravilloso para contribuir al éxito a largo plazo de las madres en el refugio. Estas cabañas proporcionan un espacio seguro para las familias y crean un sentido de hogar y pertenencia. Los niños están inscritos en la escuela para que puedan mantenerse al día con su educación.

**Programa Intensivo de 9 Meses Centrado en Cristo**
Nuestro Programa Nueva Dirección es un programa intensivo de nueve meses centrado en Cristo que tiene como objetivo ayudar a las mujeres a obtener la victoria sobre el abuso, el abandono y la negligencia del pasado. Queremos ayudar a las mujeres a romper el ciclo de la falta de vivienda y abordar necesidades específicas en sus vidas. El programa de discipulado Nueva Dirección se enfoca en la gestión de casos, estudios bíblicos y terapia laboral para alentar a las mujeres a crecer en su identidad en Cristo.

**Loving Others as Christ Commanded**

In 1955 the Hiway 80 Rescue Mission was established to provide food and shelter, and to share the gospel with homeless men in Longview. For over 65 years God has helped us grow this ministry to include an emergency shelter for women and families in Longview as well as two campuses in Tyler.

We feature Christ-centered recovery programs, and community outreach services. Through the New Creation Discipleship program, we teach people about Christ’s love and commands, arming them with the tools they need to overcome addictions, abusive situations, and many other difficulties they face in life. After completing the 10-month program, services are provided to assist them with achieving self-sufficiency.

Through Case Management, we assist homeless men and women in identifying and overcoming the obstacles that are keeping them in homelessness. Our case management team works with the individuals to create a plan to address those obstacles, secure and budget an income and locate healthy and appropriate housing.

What started in one, small building now spans 4 campuses in Longview and Tyler.
